Upon reading the title I am certain you can guess that SMART is an acronym. What you may not have guessed is that it’s a staple in the business world. Goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time based are the framework for every successful brand you come across.
I know developing an attainable goal for your company can be difficult and even daunting. To break down that obstacle we look at: Goals (Objectives), Strategy (How to achieve the Goals), and Tactics (Day to Day ways to achieve your goals).
Setting SMART goals ensure that your marketing campaign stays focused and on message. Always consider the “5 W’s” Who, What, Where, When and Why? These will keep you focused on the important questions when achieving your goals.
Now that we have broken down the goal making process lets talk about how we achieve our goals. There are three layers in achieving goals: Objective, Strategy, and Tactics. Goals in this equation are our SMART goals, the strategy I am speaking of is simply the approach or method to achieving the goals. For example we want to increase brand recognition as a goal and our strategy to achieve that is to create an online and social media presence. Delving further into our strategy we see there is another layer to our actions: Tactics. Tactics can be isolating which social media we think would benefit brand recognition the most. This is where the day to day steps are taken to increase brand recognition.
